Great Ocean Road (GOR) is one of the most famous attractions near Melbourne, I had the wonderful opportunity of being able to visit this beautiful place twice and they were without a doubt two very different experiences. The first one we rented a car and I drove with a group of friends from Melbourne city all the way to 12 Apostles, we decided where to stop & what to do. The second time we visited it on a tour, they had the stops and timing all planned in advance and we really only had to relax and enjoy. There’s no better or worse way to visit it, what’s important is that you find one way that suits you! But without a doubt these are the top 5 places you can’t miss while you’re here!

- 12 Apostles. This is the most popular place in all of the GOR and it’s gorgeous! It’s called 12 Apostles even though there’s only 9 (they named it 12 because it sounds better). I recommend that this be your first stop on your tour, this way you can avoid heavy crowds and have all the place to yourself!
- London Bridge. This is one of the furthest stops on GOR, it’s a bridge that formed by erosion on the bottom of rocks on the sea; it’s quite popular and in my opinion one of the most lovely sights on the GOR.
- Loch Ard Gorge. This place has 2 main activities; you can go down to the beach & even swim in the ocean (even though when we went it was extremely cold) and you can see the caves that are underneath the rocks. This is a very different stop and is completely worth it.
- Apollo Bay. It’s the biggest town near in GOR, you can stop here, have something to eat and wonder around local shops. There’s even a famous ice cream shop named Dooley’s that has over 300 Ice Cream Prices.
- Finally you can’t leave the Great Ocean Road without looking for some Koalas around the trees! There are specific zones where you can look for them, they’re completely fluffy and super cute! This is a completely Australian experience you can’t miss.
The Great Ocean Road can be done in one day (a day trip from Melbourne) or in a whole weekend if you want to do it in a slower pace. Either way it’s an experience completely worth it! The views are incredible, the nature and scenery are super different and you’ll really enjoy going out from the city into this natural paradise!
Great Ocean Road es una de las mayores atracciones cerca de Melbourne. Tuve la gran oportunidad de poder visitarla 2 veces y las dos fueron muy diferentes. Una la hice manejando, rentamos un coche y nos fuimos de pueblo en pueblo hasta llegar a los 12 Apóstoles y a las atracciones más populares; la segunda vez nos fuimos en un tour y ellos decidían a donde llevarnos. Creo que no hay una buena y una mala, puedes recorrer esta ruta de la manera que mejor te acomode! Pero sin duda no te puedes perder estos lugares mientras estés aquí!
- 12 Apóstoles. Es el lugar más popular del recorrido y es hermoso, se llama así ya que aunque solo hay 9 pilares en el mar el #12 suena mucho mejor! Te recomiendo que este sea tu primer destino en el recorrido ya que así puedes ahorrarte los grandes grupos de turistas que vienen diario a visitar esta atracción.
- London Bridge. Este es uno de los últimos puntos del recorrido. Es un puente que se ha formado en las piedras por la erosión y también es muy conocido, en mi opinión es de los más bonitos!
- Loch Ard Gorge. Este lugar tiene 2 actividades muy padres! Una es que puedes bajar a la playa y hasta meterte al mar; la otra es que hay algunas cuevas con estalactitas colgando desde el techo. Es una parada diferente y que vale la pena visitar!
- Apollo Bay. Es el pueblo más grande del Great Ocean Road, pueden pasar aquí a comer y hasta probar los famosos helados Dooleys, conocidos por sus 300+ premios! También pueden comprar en las tiendas locales.
- Vale la pena que busquen Koalas! Hay algunas calles y zonas conocidas por ser hábitats de Koalas! Nosotros vimos uno comiendo y no saben lo tiernos que están! Es una experiencia súper Australiana que vale la pena buscar!
El Great Ocean Road se puede hacer en un día ida y vuelta o en un fin de semana si lo quieren hacer más con calma! Pero vale completamente la pena que si están en Melbourne al menos se tomen un día para visitar esta ruta tan conocida! Les van a encantar los lugares y las vistas los dejarán super sorprendidos!
