“La bella Italia” is a phrase that I know many people have heard of, but I don’t quite believe you understand until you’ve been there. Rome is, indeed, quite beautiful, I believe many people visit it because they want to learn about it’s history, it’s religion and why it’s such a common “tourist trap”; But to me, Rome was so much more. We obviously couldn’t visit Rome without going to the hotspots of the city, I’m pretty sure it has hundreds but my favorites are the following:
Fontana Di Trevi- One of the most beautiful fountains I’ve ever been to, it’s an architectural icon filled with thousands of people lining up only to see the famous fountain and be lucky enough to throw a coin inside that will make their wish come true. We even saw a marriage proposal beside us! (yes, we did shed some tears!).
Colosseum – I believe this monument is definitely a contradiction between visitors, some say it’s completely worth the visit while others reassure that the colosseum is just one more of the ruins that the Romans left for us to admire & that there are hundreds of other ruins without 4 hours of waiting line that are totally worth it. I personally feel that the Colosseum is a perfect representation of the incredible abilities that the Romans had at their times, and that if it’s still intact to this day, we should admire the work of our ancestors and learn a little of what they left behind. Besides, this place is totally insta-worthy and I’ve always admired its enormity.
St Peter’s Basilica & the Vatican’s Museums: As a Catholic myself I loved visiting the capital of my religion, but let alone that I believe that this two places should be admired by what they truly are: impressive & beautiful architectonic landmarks. Millions of Catholics & non Catholic people visit these two places throughout the year, and it’s with no doubt that I too would love to go back. The Basilica is gigantic, and all the artwork it has to offer makes it an immediate museum on it’s own. Also the Sistine Chapel is without a doubt the most beautiful chapel I’ve ever seen in my life; pictures are prohibited in this space painted by Michelangelo, but seeing it just once with your own eyes sure is worth it.
There are hundreds of other places to go in Rome, like the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, the Spanish steps & the Piazza Navona, Rome is sure not to disappoint, especially because it’s the epicenter of Religion and Ancient Roman ruins and history all together. Also let’s not forget one of Italy’s most important features: its Food! Pizza, Pasta, Gelato, Gnocchi, Tiramisu, Cannoli and so many other dishes your pants will definitely be complaining on the way back home (mine sure did).
Our visit to Rome was fantastic, but as they say in Rome “Veni, vidi, amavi”, we came, we saw, we loved, and we definitely will be coming back to this, the cold marble but warm weather city.
“La bella Italia” es una frase que se que muchos conocen, pero no creo que todos entiendan su concepto a menos que hayan ido. Roma es, definitivamente hermoso, se puede decir que muchas personas lo visitan por que quieren aprender de su historia, religión, y por qué es un lugar tan turístico. Pero para mí, Roma es mucho más que eso. Claro que no pudimos visitar todos los lugares más importantes de Roma, pero los lugares que sí visitamos y que más nos gustaron fueron los siguientes:
Fontana Di Trevi – Una de las fuentes más hermosas que he visto en toda mi vida! Es un monumento arquitectónico lleno de cientos de personas que se forman solo para ser lo suficientemente suertudos para poder tirar una moneda a esta fuente y pedirle un deseo! Hasta nos tocó ver una propuesta de matrimonio! (y sí, sí se nos salieron las lágrimas!).
Coliseo- Creo que este monumento ha sido una contradicción desde hace muchos años, ya que algunas personas dicen que no vale la pena formarte 4 horas a pleno calor para ver este monumento arquitectónico que los Romanos nos dejaron; otras personas dicen que es un ejemplo perfecto de lo que eran capaces los Romanos, y yo estoy de acuerdo con ellos! A parte es enorme y para fotos es un lugar buenísimo.
Basílica de San Pedro y el Museo del Vaticano – Como una católica me encantó visitar el centro de mi religión, pero dejando al lado eso, creo que es importante notar que estos dos lugares son impresionantes! Desde la arquitectura, hasta los detalles artísticos, las pinturas y esculturas de verdad son lugares que valen la pena visitar. Millones de personas van todos los años a conocer estos lugares y hasta existe el Museo del Vaticano, con todas las obras de arte que te puedes imaginar. También recomiendo visitar la Capilla Sixtina, no se permiten fotos pero es (para mi opinión personal) uno de los lugares artísticos más impresionantes.
Hay cientos de lugares a donde puedes ir en Roma como el Parthenon, la Piazza Navona, los Escalones Españoles, el Forum Romano y cientos más; Roma no puede decepcionarte, especialmente porque es el epicentro de Religión Católica y ruinas de los Romanos Antiguas todo junto en una ciudad. Y no hay que olvidarnos de lo más importante de Italia, su comida! Pizza, Pasta, Gelato, Gnocchi, Tiramisu, Cannolis y cientos de platillos más que te aseguro que tus pantalones te van a apretar cuando regreses a casa (como los míos!).
Nuestra visita a Roma fué fantástica, pero como dicen en Roma “Veni, vidi, amavi”, vinimos, vimos y amamos, y definitivamente regresaremos a esta ciudad de frío mármol pero clima caliente.
