Just as there is a Pink city in India, there’s also a blue one, better known as Jodhpur and in my opinion one of the jewels of this country. Jodhpur was one of our last stops while visiting India, so we were much more used to the dynamic of the country and what to expect. We arrived to our hotel and were pleasantly surprised by having a spectacular view of the Mehrangarh from our windows; this meant we could see it lit up at night and have a drink while admiring the view of the blue city.
Some of the most common activities while visiting Jodhpur are: to visit the Mehrangarh, which is a historic site of the city and is one of India’s biggest forts. It takes about 2 hours to explore all of the fort, but the view of the city from up there is completely worth it! We also had the fortune of being able to visit some typical Indian houses that were built hundreds of years before and have traditional architecture, we met the people who live there and were really surprised by their humble ways of living; besides we shared some chai with them and were really able to bond with them (this was without a doubt one of our highlights of Jodhpur and we definitely recommend it to travelers in Jodhpur.)
Finally we explored the city by walking in between the city center and entering stores that the city had to offer. Jaipur is known for having a lot of architectural sites and art stores, so we visited some museums and even bought some local art crafts. We also visited the Sardar Market and the famous “Toorji’s Step Well” which is a well that provides easy water access to all the town, and depending on the season the water rises or descends. This was one of our favorite parts of Jodhpur, we even took some tea here and played ball with some local kids.
Jodhpur is a city that makes the busy life of India seem a little more relaxed, we were able to really enjoy our stay here and appreciate the life quality of Indian people. What we most loved about this city was how many locals we met and how welcoming they were all, we really made some true friends. The impressive blue colors, view of this city and especially the people really left us with a great memory of this city; hopefully one day we’ll be able to return to this gorgeous place.
Así com hay una ciudad Rosa en la India, también hay una azul, mejor conocida como Jodhpur y en mi opinión una de las joyas de este país. Jodhpur fue una de nuestras últimas paradas en la India, entonces ya estábamos un poco más acostumbrados al país y a la dinámica que requería visitar cada ciudad. Llegamos a nuestro hotel y fuimos recibidos por una impresionante vista del Mehrangarh, el fuerte más importante del país y la atracción mayor de Jodhpur. Pudimos ver este monumento iluminado de noche y fue algo increíble poder cenar con vista hacia el.
Algunas de las actividades más comunes de Jodhpur son: visitar el fuerte Mehrangarh, que es inmenso y toma aproximadamente 2 horas recorrerlo todo; pero la vista que ofrece de la ciudad es impresionante y vale la pena! También tuvimos la suerte de poder visitar una aldea cerca de la ciudad, ellos siguen viviendo en casas con arquitectura hechas hace cientos de años, completamente antiguas y muy humildes. Este sin duda fue uno de nuestros momentos favoritos del viaje, ya que convivimos con los locales de la aldeas y pudimos platicar con ellos acerca de sus vidas y costumbres. Nos encantó y lo recomendamos mucho a los viajeros que visitan Jodhpur.
Finalmente exploramos la ciudad caminando, entre muchas tiendas de arte y arquitectura (ya que esto es muy popular en la ciudad), inclusive pudimos conocer a artistas locales y comprar arte y manualidades. También visitamos el mercado Sadar y los famosos “Escalones Pozo Toorji”, estos son un conjunto de escalones alrededor de un pozo que ofrece agua a las personas de la ciudad, dependiendo de la temporada si el agua subo o baja. Esta fue sin duda una de nuestras partes favoritas de la ciudad, pudimos tomar té cerca del pozo y hasta jugamos a la pelota con unos niños de la ciudad.
Jodhpur es una ciudad que hace que la ocupada vida de la India y su caos se vea un poco más pacífico, nos encantó poder apreciar más de cerca el estilo de vida de las personas de la ciudad y poder convivir con ellos tanto. En esta ciudad de verdad nos sentimos bienvenidos y nos encantó poder aprender de sus costumbres y tradiciones actuales. Los colores, la vista y en especial la gente de esta ciudad nos dejó muy felices y con muchas ganas de regresar; esperemos algún día podamos hacerlo.
