Concrete jungle has always been defined as NYC, but as we arrived to Hong Kong I realized that the real jungle had moved East and established in Hong Kong!
With over 9 million habitants HK is an enormous city, but what makes it so stunning is that due to it being in an island all the constructions have to be built upwards and not sideways! Which is why there are hundreds if not thousands of tall buildings in this city.
The rent is said to be the most expensive in the world! Not even London or NYC are close to what a 2m is valued here! People live together with their families (parents, grandparents, in laws and cousins) in order to be able to pay the rent all together! Surely there’s a % of the population of HK that have a great amount of money and don’t have this issue, but the majority do! And it’s unimaginable how small and expensive everything is here!
On the bright side, we visited a little bit of everything while we were here! The 360 Gondola and the Tian Tan Buddha on top, the Financial Center, Tsim Sha Tsui for a great night view of HK, Choi Hung Estate (for some pics), Sham Shui Po for some electronics shopping and even enjoyed the High Tea hour!
This city is the other side of China, technically it’s an independent Republic and you can see it because of the modern and progressive lifestyle that HK shows! But they still have many customs which are different and life in this city is very diverse! If you want to see the tallest and built together buildings this is definitely the city for you.
La ciudad del concreto siempre ha sido definida como Nueva York, pero cuando llegamos a Hong Kong me di cuenta de que esta se había movido hacia el Este y ahora era Hong Kong quien ocupaba este título.
Con más de 9 millones de habitantes HK es una enorme ciudad, pero lo que la hace super interesante es que como no hay mucho espacio en esta isla las construcciones se han hecho hacia arriba y no hacia los lados. Es por esto que hay cientos y si no miles de edificios con muchisimos pisos en esta ciudad.
La renta en HK dicen que es la más cara del mundo! Ni siquiera Londres o Nueva York llegan a lo que un metro cuadrado vale en esta isla. Las personas viven en familias de 8 o hasta 10 personas en apartamentos de muy pocos metros; y todos trabajan juntos para poder pagar la renta! Claro que hay un % de la población que no vive en condiciones tan apretadas, pero la mayoría de los ciudadanos de HK viven muy apretados y estresados por tener que pagar una renta insultantemente cara!
Por el otro lado tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar un poco de todo de esta ciudad mientras la visitamos! Fuimos a la Góndola 360 que nos llevó al Buda Tian Tan, a la zona financiera, al Tsim Sha Tsui por una vista impresionante de la ciudad! También visitamos Choi Hung Estate para ver los famosos departamentos de colmena, fuimos a Sham Shui Po a ver compras de electricidad e inclusive pudimos vivir la experiencia de el High Tea.
Esta ciudad de verdad es otra cara de China, es la parte moderna y progresiva! Técnicamente hablando es una república independiente pero sigue siendo parte del país; aunque en su mayoría se ve el avance que esta ciudad ha tenido del resto de China. Si quieres ver una ciudad inmensa, llena de edificios y el centro de finanzas mundial entonces esta ciudad es para tí.
