Mexico City is without a doubt a very chaotic and big city, full of tall buildings, thousands of streets and too many cars, it can sometimes be a little overwhelming. Which is why I loved visiting the Historic City Center of this city, to clear my mind and focus on the real essence of the city, that lies in its culture and history.
We started our visit by going to the well known Bellas Artes museum, which is famous because of its bold architecture, art and culture exhibitions and because it’s truly majestic! After our visit we encountered a food market beside the museum, so we took advantage of this and bought some delicious mango with chili (Which is typical of mexican street food). Afterwards we decided to visit the Latin American Tower Observatory, which is located at the 44th floor of the tower and offers the best view of the city center! I highly recommend this spot if you want to give yourself a clearer idea of how big the center and the city really are!
Afterwards we visited the Tolerance and Memory Museum, which is only a couple of blocks away from the tower; truth be told we did not think it would take so long to see all the museum but it was definitely worth it. It’s dedicated to the mistakes that human race has made throughout the years and is really interesting, personally this subject really got to me and I believe we should all reflect about this at least once in our lives.
We decided to eat at an oriental restaurant close to the museum, but there are hundreds of options where you can eat, there’s mexican cuisine, italian, international or even just some great street tacos! But what I really recommend you to eat are some churros from “Churrería el Moro” this are without a doubt some of the best in Mexico and I promise you won’t be disappointed. After we visited the old Postal Office and the Blue Tiles house, these are both in the same zone and are very beautiful colonial architectural buildings that you’ll love to see and take some pictures of!
Our last stop was the Ciudadela Market, we thought this was walking distance from the other places we visited, but I highly recommend you to take a cab or a bus, because it is quite far away. This was without a doubt our favorite spot of all the city center, full of color, textures and artisans work, you can find hundreds of handmade crafts you’ll love!
Mexico City is too big to cover all together, let alone in one day; but if you have one free day to spare then I highly recommend you to visit the City Center! It’s the heart and soul of the city and you’ll end up wanting to go more often because there’s so much to see! I hope you’ll love these places as much as we did!
La Ciudad de México muchas veces se puede sentir muy caótica y atiborrada, llena de edificios, oficinas y coches; es por eso que me encantó visitar el Centro Histórico de esta ciudad, para poder despejar mi mente de lo moderno y gris que ha predominado y enfocarme en lo cultural e histórico, la verdadera esencia de la ciudad.
Empezamos visitando el famoso museo de Bellas Artes, conocido como un museo, lugar de exposiciones y teatro para la ciudad, este edificio es icónico en el centro y va cambiando de exposiciones dependiendo la época del año. Alrededor nos tocó un mercado de comida y aprovechamos para comer un delicioso mango con chile (típico de México). Después decidimos visitar el mirador de la Torre Latinoamericana, está ubicado en el piso 44 de la torre y ofrece una vista increíble de la ciudad! Se los recomiendo mucho, en especial si se quieren dar una idea de lo inmenso que es tanto el centro como la CDMX.
Después visitamos el Museo de Memoria y Tolerancia, que está a tan solo unas cuadras de la torre Latino; la verdad es que no pensamos que nos iba a tomar tanto tiempo recorrer el museo pero vale completamente la pena! Está enfocado en los errores de los humanos a través del tiempo y de cómo debemos de aprender de ellos para no repetirlos; a mí en lo personal me dejó muy emocional este museo, y creo que es un tema del cual todos debemos de reflexionar en algún punto de nuestras vidas.
Decidimos comer en un restaurante asiático del centro, pero hay cientos de opciones de las cuales ustedes pueden escoger! Ya sea comida típica mexicana, internacional, italiana o simplemente unos buenos tacos! Lo que sí les recomiendo es que vayan a la “Churrería el Moro” y prueben unos de los mejores churros de la ciudad! Después pasamos por la casa de los azulejos y la Oficina Antigua de Correos de México, los dos son edificios que valen la pena ver; tanto por la historia como por lo hermosos que son! Es arquitectura colonial que no ha sido modificada en lo más mínimo, y de verdad son divinos!
Nuestra última parada fue el Mercado de la Ciudadela; inicialmente pensamos que estaba a corta distancia caminando, pero de hecho está mucho más lejos, así que les recomiendo ir en coche o en camión. Esta fue sin duda nuestra parada favorita de todo el centro, aquí venden artesanías de artistas y artesanos de toda la república y en verdad venden obras de arte! Hay muchísimo color, detalle y piezas únicas que estoy segura les encantará conocer!
La ciudad de México sin duda es enorme, y creo que es casi imposible poder recorrerla toda! Pero si tienen un día libre les recomiendo mucho visitar el Centro, podrán aprender un poco acerca de la historia y cultura de la ciudad y estoy segura que acabarán encantados como nosotras!
