As we looked through the airplane window we could see the hundreds of different shades of blue that were starting to appear in front of our eyes. Cozumel has always been underrated if compared to Cancun or Playa del Carmen, both beautiful but much more commercial than this little island we were about to land into. We walked out of the airplane and could feel our bodies soak up the sun and humidity that the island had prepared for us. After a few hours of picking up our luggage and renting a car we finally headed to “Naah Ha” which would be our home for the week. Our department was beautiful, we loved all the spaces in which you could lay down and relax; but the highlight was the view, we were on the 8th floor which meant we could see into the sea and beyond.
People go to Cozumel for three reasons mainly: Scuba Diving, the food and friendly environment or to simply escape life for a moment and enjoy this island’s hidden secrets; and that’s what we did. We scuba dived two times a day for 4 days straight, and to be honest, I feel like it wasn’t enough. We saw so many incredible creatures and plants that every time we finished a dive I couldn’t wait to go back inside. Sharks, turtles, stingrays, fish, lobsters and starfishes are just some of the few amazing creatures Cozumel let us meet.
Anyone who has ever scuba dived knows that the one side effect of diving is strong, hunger. As soon as you go out of the water and into the ship your body feels exhausted and begs you for food, which is why we always packed some snacks for the trip. When we returned to shore we would hit some of Cozumel’s most famous spots to eat; “Le Chef” with its famous Lobster Sandwich, “New Especias” with its delicious Risotto or “Guidos” which is probably one of the best restaurants in the island and won’t disappoint you.
We enjoyed every single day and even met with a few friends which were staying in the building beside us. Cozumel is definitely the vacation you are looking for if you want to take some time off life and enjoy every moment; the food, the places and the people are very friendly and they definitely make you feel at home. This vacation was the first but definitely not the last for us here.
Mientras veíamos desde la ventana del avión empezamos a ver miles de diferentes tonos de azul que aparecían frente a nuestros ojos. Cozumel siempre ha sido un poco menospreciado si es comparado con Cancún o Playa del Carmen, los dos son hermosos pero mucho más turísticos que esta pequeña isla a la que estábamos a punto de llegar. Llegamos al aeropuerto y sentimos como nuestros cuerpos rápidamente empezaban a tener calor por la humedad tan fuerte que la isla tenía preparada para nosotros. Después de algunas horas, recogimos nuestro equipaje, rentamos un coche y llegamos a “Naah Ha” que sería nuestra casa por los siguientes días. Nuestro departamento estaba hermoso, tenía muchos lugares donde podías echarte a descansar; pero lo mejor era la vista, estábamos en el 8o piso y podías ver el mar y más allá desde el balcón.
Las personas van a Cozumel por distintas razones: para bucear, por el ambiente de esta isla tan chica y su comida, o simplemente para relajarse y escapar un momento. Nosotros buceamos 4 días seguidos y para ser honesta creo que no fue suficiente! Vimos tantas criaturas y animales diferentes que cada vez que salías del agua querías volver a entrar. Tiburones, tortugas, rayas, peces, langostas, y estrellas de mar son sólo el principio de todo lo que pudimos encontrar ahí debajo.
Cualquier persona que ha buceado sabe que el efecto secundario más grande es el hambre! En el momento que sales del agua te da muchísima hambre y sueño, por lo que siempre es importante llevar comida cuando vas a bucear y así puedes comer mientras esperas para volver a bajar. Cuando regresamos a tierra nos encantaba poder comer en alguno de los cientos de restaurantes deliciosos que te ofrece Cozumel como “Le Chef” con su Sandwich famoso de Langosta, “New Especias” con su Risotto delicioso o “Guidos” que es probablemente uno de los mejores de la isla.
Disfrutamos mucho cada día en esta isla y nos encantó conocer nuevas personas y amigos que hicieron que nuestra estancia fuera increíble. Cozumel es definitivamente la vacación y el lugar que estás buscando si quieres relajarte por unos días y olvidarte de lo demás. Las personas, la comida y el lugar hacen que te sientas como en casa; para nosotros fue nuestra primera visita pero definitivamente no la última en este paraíso azul.
