Our first stop in our India trip was Bodh Gaya, after spending the night in a train of approximately 10 hours we arrived to this beautiful, small and quite cute town. Bodh Gaya is famous mostly because it is considered one of the most important places to Buddhists, it is said that Buddha found enlightenment beneath a sacred Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya; which is why thousands of tourists come every year to learn more about this sacred place.
We were in Bodh Gaya for two days and it was quite enough time to visit all the town and learn more about the buddhist traditions and stories. The two main attractions here are Mahabodhi Temple and the Great Buddha. These two are of great significance to Buddhist practicants, the first one if the place where the Bodhi Tree lies and where you can find hundreds of Buddhist Monks in plain meditation. The Great Buddha is a 19 m tall sculpture of a Buddha which represents Gaya as one of the main towns of Buddhists.
If you’re ever near Gaya and are looking to find a town in which you want to learn more about Buddhism I definitely recommend you visiting it. You can ask a local guide to take you to the main landmarks here and even take you somewhere local to eat. The whole town is surrounded by nature so even taking a tour to the surroundings is completely worth it. A town for peace and knowledge is exactly what this was for us.
Nuestra primera parada en el viaje de la India fue Bodh Gaya, después de pasar toda la noche en un tren de 10 horas llegamos este pueblo que es muy pequeño pero muy rico culturalmente. Bodh Gaya es famoso porque es considerado el lugar en el cual Buda se iluminó debajo de un árbol Bodhi; por lo que miles de turistas lo visitan todos los años, para poder conocer más a fondo este lugar y sus historias.
Estuvimos en Gaya por dos días y fue más que suficiente para visitar todos los lugares culturales que nos tenía preparado este lugar. Las dos cosas principales que hay que ver son el Templo Mahabodhi y el Gran Buddha. El primero es el templo dónde se encuentra el árbol donde Buda fue iluminado, y el segundo en una escultura de un Buda como de 20 m. Los dos son lugares muy interesantes y podrán aprender muchísimo del Budismo en ambos.
Este lugar es muy recomendado si están por el rumbo y están buscando enriquecer su conocimiento sobre el Budismo y las religiones del mundo. Pueden encontrar un guía local que los lleve a todos los lugares interesantes e inclusive los lleve a comer. También pueden rentar motos e ir a los alrededores del pueblo, ya que está completamente rodeado de naturaleza. Para ir a conocer y reflexionar, Gaya es el lugar ideal.
