We arrived to Bogotá an hour after we took off from Medellin. Firstly we went to our hotel to leave our belongings and since we arrived rather late that same day we decided to have dinner in our hotel and sleep in that night (we needed to recover some energy to explore Bogotá and all it had to offer as best as possible). The next day we planned all of our activities around one thing: food. The restaurant “Andrés Carne de Res” is probably Colombia’s most famous restaurant, and after our visit we were sure why. Firstly this massive place can seat not 100 but 3000 people at the same time! It’s menu is 63 pages long and there are more than 1000 employees working there at the same time! To say that our experience was different from any other would be an understatement, we were served by two waiters a girl and a boy, and to be honest the service and the food were only one thing: spectacular! This place is not only a restaurant, but in a way it’s a community of thousands of people all over the world gathered here together to eat, drink, dance and enjoy a whole afternoon in this curious and gigantic place; All the tables are decorated with handpainted crafts, autographs, souvenirs and photos! there’s definitely not one corner that will disappoint.
After having what I would call as one of the most memorable meals of my life we returned to Bogotá (since the restaurant is an hour away from the city center), we decided to go and visit the Museum of Gold, we loved seeing all the handmade creations of history and we enjoyed our time there quite a lot. The next day we took a cable car to Monserrate, a church that is located on top of one of Bogota’s surrounding mountains, this was a fantastic idea because from this point you could see all of Bogota and get incredible photos of the city, we even had the chance to go to mass up there. Later that day we went to the Museum of Botero (Colombia’s most famous artist), we loved seeing all of his creations, and the construction of the museum itself is quite stunning. For our last meal in Colombia we went to Harry Sasson, a delicious restaurant inspired in latin infused recipes! We had an amazing dinner and to be honest we almost didn’t want to leave.
We were in Bogotá only for a few days, but while we were there we were able to enjoy the people, the food and the real ambience of Colombian people. This trip made us realize how proud we are of being latinos and how much more we have to learn about our related countries. If you have the opportunity I would definitely recommend you coming to Colombia, it has so much to offer than we know.
Llegamos a Bogotá una hora después de despegar de Medellin. Primero que nada fuimos a nuestro hotel a hacer Check-In y dejar nuestras cosas, pero como llegamos bastante tarde decidimos quedarnos y cenar en el hotel (la verdad es que llegamos bastante tarde y el agotamiento nos ganó). Al día siguiente planeamos todas nuestras actividades en base a una cosa: la comida. El restaurante “Andrés Carne de Res” es probablemente uno de los restaurantes más famosos de Colombia, y después de nuestra visita supimos exactamente por qué. Primero que nada este lugar puede sentar no a 100 si no a 3000 personas al mismo tiempo! Su menú es nada más de 63 páginas y tiene más de 1000 empleados! Decir que nuestra experiencia aquí fue buena no le haría justicia a este lugar, nos sirvieron dos meseros, un hombre y una mujer y para ser honesta el servicio y la comida estuvieron impactantes! Además este lugar no es sólo un restaurante, es más bien una comunidad de miles de personas de todo el mundo que se juntan a comer, beber, bailar y disfrutar de una tarde en este lugar enormemente curioso. Todas las mesas están decoradas de souvenirs, pinturas, artesanías y decoraciones super diversas y divertidas!
Después de pasar por una de las mejores comidas que he tenido en mi vida regresamos a Bogotá (ya que el restaurante está a una hora del centro de la ciudad), decidimos ir a visitar el Museo del Oro, nos encantó ver las artesanías de la historia de Colombia y aprendimos mucho acerca de ellas. El día siguiente tomamos un teleférico que nos llevó a Monserrate, una iglesia situada hasta arriba de una de las montañas que rodean Bogotá, fue una idea increíble ya que pudimos ver toda la ciudad y su inmensidad desde arriba. Después ese mismo día fuimos al Museo de Botero (el pintor Colombiano más famoso del momento), nos encantó ver sus pinturas y esculturas famosas, y aparte la construcción de este mismo es precioso. Como última comida en Colombia fuimos a Harry Sasson, un restaurante delicioso inspirado en recetas con infusión latina. Tuvimos una cena excelente y para ser honesta no nos queríamos ir.
Estuvimos en Bogotá sólo por algunos días, pero mientras estuvimos ahí pudimos disfrutar de la comida, las personas y el ambiente Colombiano. Este viaje nos hizo darnos cuenta de lo orgullosos que estamos de ser latinos y de cómo tenemos mucho más que aprender de nuestros países hermanos. Si tienes la oportunidad de conocer Colombia definitivamente te lo recomiendo, tiene mucho más que ofrecer de lo que te imaginas.
